I started making natural soaps and shampoos after learning about the ingredients in "store bought" varieties. A bar of soap from the store is not actually soap...it is a detergent bar. The natural glycerin, which is a humectant (it attracts moisture to your skin) is removed, because it can be sold separately for a higher price, and the bar is filled with artificial colors and scents (chemicals!). Most detergent bars, and shampoos, also contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate). This chemical is one of the worst things to put on your skin - it is very corrosive and is used in the cleaning industry to degrease professional garage floors and engines! It is also used as a skin irritant in clinical testing on both humans and animals...the purpose being to irritate the skin and then test healing agents for effectiveness. When used in shampoo,it can damage hair folicles which can lead to hair loss. I would encourage you to do a "Google" search on SLS and read the dangers involved. It is used because of its foaming action. You will also find it in cleaning supplies and toothpaste!
When I learned the truth about SLS and some of the other chemicals used in "store" soaps and shampoo, I began buying "homemade" soap at festivals and other places. I was very disappointed with the quality and lack of lathering ability of some of these soaps and I was horrified to find that some soapmakers actually used Crisco as their main oil or colored their soaps with crayons! Now who would want to slather Crisco and crayons on their skin?! I also found that many soapmakers used "fragrance oils"...which are chemicals! Some dear friends invited me over on a Sunday afternoon and were gracious enough to teach me the art of soapmaking....and soapmaking, done correctly, truly is an art! So began my journey into the world of soap!
My soaps are all pure and natural. I handcraft all of my soaps here on the farm in small batches. I cut the bars by hand, so no two bars are exactly the same. The average weight of a bar is over 4 oz. I use only the finest oils and essential oils My soaps lather well, even in cold water.
I use only organic herbs to color my soaps naturally. I never use chemical dyes or other unhealthy, unnatural methods. I also use the finest essential oils to scent my soaps. I will never use fragrance oils or other chemicals for scent!.
I want my family to use only pure and natural soap so that is what I create...and the soaps I offer you here are the same soaps my family uses everyday in our home! Truly natural soaps!!
